Emoluments: The Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) receive emoluments in the form of a Time-Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA), which includes an annual increase of 3%, contingent upon the fulfillment of specific conditions outlined in the GDS Rules. Additionally, they are entitled to a Dearness Allowance on the TRCA, as determined by the Government of India periodically.

The initial engagement of GDS is conducted using the following basic TRCA slabs:

i)BPM: ₹12,000 – ₹29,380

ii)ABPM/Dak Sevaks: ₹10,000 – ₹24,470

Eligibility Criteria 

The age of candidates must be between 18 and 40 years as of the last date for submitting the application.

Age Relaxation: The age relaxation criteria for each category are outlined below.

i.SC/ST: 5 years

ii.OBC: 3 years

iii.PwD (Unreserved): 10 years

iv.PwD (OBC): 13 years

v.PwD (SC/ST): 15 years

Educational Qualification: The educational qualification required for the engagement of Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) is a Secondary School Examination pass certificate for the 10th standard, with passing marks in Mathematics and English. This certificate must be issued by any recognized Board of School Education under the Government of India, State Governments, or Union Territories in India.

Local Language Proficiency: The applicant must have studied the local language at least up to the 10th standard from a recognized board.

Other Criteria: The additional requisite criteria are as follows:

Selection Process:

The selection process for the India Post GDS recruitment consists of the following stages:

  • The Department will publish the list of applicants shortlisted for engagement on the GDS Online Portal. Once the results are announced, the shortlisted candidates will be notified of the outcomes and the dates for physical verification via SMS to their registered mobile numbers and through email to their registered email addresses.
  • The merit list will be compiled based on the marks obtained or the conversion of grades/points to marks in the Secondary School Examination for the 10th standard from recognized boards. The marks will be aggregated into a percentage with an accuracy of four decimal places.
  • Physical Verification of Documents: Following the shortlisting process, candidates will be required to visit the office of the designated authority, specifically the Divisional/Unit Head of the relevant Division/Unit where the position has been announced, for the physical verification of documents and additional engagement formalities. This process must be completed within 15 days from the date of shortlisting.
  • Upon successful verification by the Divisional Head, the candidate will be required to complete the pre-engagement formalities for joining within 30 days from the date of the ‘offer of provisional engagement.’ These formalities include, but are not limited to, a mandatory basic training program lasting 3 days and arrangements for accommodation. Failure to complete these formalities or to join thereafter for any reason will result in the immediate cancellation of the candidature upon the expiration of the stipulated 30-day period, and the position will be offered to the next candidate.
